Renewal with Spring's First Sprout

As the seasons change - and the internal, solitary energy of winter starts to fade - the gentle energy of Spring joyfully emerges.


The harsh soil of Winter thaws and softens. The seeds stirs in the ground and delicate roots spread out and down. Just as the trees, buds and crocuses start to emerge, my cells feel like they are vibrating and I too feel my energy being refreshed and renewed.

I looked out the door and saw the dove in my blue spruce courting his love. The sparrows in my neighbor’s air conditioner are busy getting their new nest ready. Any feelings of melancholy have been replaced with excitement and renewal. I am ready to spread the roots of what needs to blossom for me this Spring and Summer. What a great time to set intentions for what needs to blossom in you!

This year the equinox falls on March 20th, 7:21 p.m. EDT. On this day, the sun is in the midpoint in the sky and both day and night are 12 hours. Last year I remembered to try and balance an egg on its end and it worked!

Pre-Full Moon Workshop: Rosie's Mandala Workshop

Drawing the Light: Illuminated Sacred Circles for Healing and Awakening

The mandala, Sanskrit for "circle or container of essence," has been used throughout history in various cultures as an aid to meditation, prayer, and journeying within. Mandala drawing can be a means to access this inner Light always available in us, a resource for inner strength.
Join Eileen Rose ("Rosie") on the Winter Solstice at CoSM to welcome back the light which is always within us.

Through meditation and holding strong intentions, participants will intuitively receive and illuminate sacred symbols for healing, inner strength and manifestation, as they create luminous mandalas. Participants of any skill level will create illuminated mandalas using colored pencils on black paper and other simple materials. This joyous and non-competitive workshop will include a releasing burning ritual and the creation of a communal sand mandala after the Full Moon ceremony that night. At the time when darkness is long, this workshop is an opportunity to reclaim our inner Light.

Admission: $65.00 (all art supplies included)

John Lennon Remembered

Tomorrow we celebrate the birth of the John Lennon, who was taken too soon from all of us.

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one".

His songs and their messages will live on forever.

A Day of Drum and Dance

This past Saturday, on September 25th, I was honored and privileged to take part in A Day of Drum and Dance and facilitate a communal sand mandala at the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Freeport, NY. What an amazing day of community and celebration, with rhythm, dance, spirit and soul!

The day featured John “Jembe John” Ward teaching traditional African rhythms, Nydia “Liberty” Mata teaching Latin rhythms, Khadyjah Harper-Alleyne teaching traditional West African rhythms and dances, the beautiful and graceful Janeena teaching Middles Eastern belly dancing, and Edwina Lee Tyler stirring all our souls with her spiritual drumming class. Her teaching, singing and performance touched us all on a deep level and opened our hearts.

The turnout was great, but more important than that was that the energy of the group was awesome. It truly represented the group intention we held in our hearts as we did the communal mandala: to create peace though community. Like the Unitarian Universalists that hosted the gathering, we held that our drumming and dancing would break down all barriers and differences, unite us in love and light... We held that we would have unconditional love for all regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation, familial structure, income or abilities and remember that we are all ONE.
